The year 1992 was the fifth version of the Crickets most elevated rivalry. Australia and New Zealand were the hosts played between 22 February to 25 March. Pakistan won the world cup by beating England in the finals by 22 runs under the captaincy of Imran Khan. This world cup was the first gathering among India and Pakistan. The match was held at Sydney on the fourth of March 1992.

Indian skipper M Azharuddin won the toss and chose to bat first in a decent swinging wicket. A Jadeja and K Srikkanth opened the innings for India.
