The year 1992 was the fifth version of the Crickets most
elevated rivalry. Australia and New Zealand were the hosts played between 22
February to 25 March. Pakistan won the world cup by beating England in the
finals by 22 runs under the captaincy of Imran Khan. This world cup was the
first gathering among India and Pakistan. The match was held at Sydney on the
fourth of March 1992.
Indian skipper M Azharuddin won the toss and chose to bat
first in a decent swinging wicket. A Jadeja and K Srikkanth opened the innings
for India. Aaqib Javid picked the wicket of K Srikanth for five runs. Little
partnerships kept India in consideration to take the score more than 200 runs.
It was Sachin Tendulkar's showcase that took the team to 216/7 out of 49 overs.
The match was lessened to 49 overs a side because of the lower over rate by the
Pakistan. M Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers taking three wickets giving away
59 runs in the given 10 overs. Imran Khan was the emerged bowler with a rocking
bowling figure of 8-0-25-0.
Chasing an objective of 217 runs Pakistan lost two speedy
wickets giving a chance of winning the match easy fo India. Be that as it may,
a partnership between A Sohail and J Miandad took the match back to the
Pakistan side before Miandad was knocked down by Srinath for 40 runs. This
changed the counterpart for India as wickets fell with hardly a pause in
between. At last, Pakistan lost the match by 43 keeps running with 5 wickets
remaining. Manoj Prabhakar was the pick of the bowlers with a knocking down some
pins figure of 10-1-22-2. Sachin Tendulkar was the match of the match with a
wicket and 54 runs.
